Gretchen Hewlett
Presented by Tanis Hammond
This year’s Woman of Distinction is none other than Gretchen Hewlett. She is SBCC Foundation’s Chief Development Officer. In 2015 she was honored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Santa Barbara/Ventura Chapter as Professional Fundraiser of the year for her work at SBCC Foundation. She has also served on the SBA Board and committees. She always has a quick smile, a confident demeanor, and has dedicated her life to helping others, either through fundraising or professional encouragement.
Although she was not able to attend our Annual Meeting, she sent the following comments:
“Being recognized as a Woman of Distinction is a surprise and a great honor, especially in light of the women who have preceded me in setting a standard for excellence and achievement. With humility and appreciation, I gratefully accept.
As members of Santa Barbara Associates, we set ourselves apart with our professionalism, hard work, wit, and insight. We support one another in very personal and intimate ways—celebrating successes in our personal and business lives, encouraging one another through difficult times, and—as I grow older this becomes of greater value—aging with one another.
From my very first days as an Associate—when Marci Friedlander sponsored my membership nearly 22 years ago—I have been buoyed by the relationships developed, each marked by camaraderie and cooperation that is (for me, at least) the most sterling hallmark of female friendship.
To be part of this generous, supportive, and intelligent group of individuals is a gift. In ways big and small, each of you make a positive difference in one another’s lives and in the life of our community. I am proud to be among you. Thank you for this thoughtful, kind recognition.”
